School transport services for post primary schools are operated nationally by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills. The purpose of the scheme is to support the transport to and from school of young people who reside not less than 4.8 kilometres their nearest post primary education centre/school.
The parents and/or guardians of a young person wishing to avail of the post primary school transport scheme, for the first time, are required to submit a completed application for Post Primary School Transport through the Bus Éireann website at www.buseireann.ie/schooltransport.
A seat on a service will not be guaranteed in the event of a late application or late payment under the scheme after the payment closing date as published on the Bus Éireann and Department of Education & Skills websites, regardless of eligibility status.
Please note, the appropriate annual charge for each eligible young person must be paid. Details of charges are available on the Buy a School Transport ticket page. Eligible young people who hold valid General Medical Service Scheme cards are exempt from school transport charges.
